Buying a relationship is usually as important as the software package purchased. The quality of the company is just as essential as the quality of the software product. The software company needs to be reliable in supplying updates, training, technical support and possibly hardware.

The level of service and the financial stability of the software company are very significant. It's critical to evaluate the software company; otherwise some frustrating and expensive problems could result. As examples:

•  What if the software company goes out of business (dozens of companies come and go every year)?

•  What if it takes six hours to get technical support when there is a printing problem?

•  What if insufficient training results in reports showing wrong totals?
